Rudolph Valentino, the most famous artist from Puglia



Rudolph Valentino, (May 6, 1895 - August 23, 1926) was an Italian actor born in Castellaneta, Apulia, in the same year as the invention of cinema.

He spent some time in Paris, where he became a talented dancer, and then returned to Italy for a while. In 1913 he left for America, following the advice of Domenico Savino, a friend of his and of tenor Tito Schipa.

He landed in New York where he worked for a while as a dancer and obtained a certain local fame. It has been said that during this period he also was a gigolo and that he had judicial troubles for prostitution-related matters.He next met the actor Norman Kerry, who convinced him to try a career in cinema, still in the silent era.

In 1926 he died in New York, an estimated 100,000 people were said to have taken part in his funeral.

Hollywood legend relates the story that thousands of women lined the streets, causing riots. Several of his fans were even said to have committed suicide.
He is interred in the Hollywood Forever Memorial Park Cemetery in Hollywood, California.

Lucio Dalla in concert

Lucio Dalla, the famous singer-songwriter from Bologna will perform a live concert on august 17, in Bisceglie (Bari).

The concert "Sea narrates (Il Mare racconta)" will also have a charitable goal, since a part of the seats sells proceeds would be devolved for charity.

“Festa di Cinema del reale” (24/25/26 July 2008)

“La Festa di Cinema del reale” is an event dedicated to authors and their works, motion-picture and video, that offer personal and singular interpretations of the world realities, past and present ones. Different documentary genre merge into this festival in which are projected experimental films, test film, personal diaries, family films, large reportage, historical inquiries… The event, conceived and organized from Big Sur, will be directed by the filmmaker the Paolo Pisanelli.

Live music and local appetizers will open each evening dedicated to Italian documentary: “Biùtiful cauntri” of Esmeralda Calabria, Andrea D' Ambrosio and Peppe Ruggiero, “The grotesque side of the Life” of Federica Di Giacomo, “The passage of the line” of Pietro Marcello, “The theatre and the teacher” of Paolo Pisanelli, “Vjesh/Song” of Rossella Schillaci and “We want also the roses” of Alina Marazzi.

La Notte della Taranta (11th Edition)


From 7 to 23 August will take place the Eleventh Edition of La Notte della Taranta, the greatest music festival (completely free) dedicated to revival and enhancement of Salentine pizzica through the meeting with other traditions and different music genres, promoted and organized by Regione Puglia, Provincia di Lecce, Unione dei Comuni della Grecìa Salentina and Istituto Diego Carpitella in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce of Lecce, Gioco del Lotto and Arcus Spa, with the production and press office of Princigalli Produzioni.
